An unfortunate coincidence! This news was too good to sit on for another day.

We won't know if they can finish it until the settlement details have been released. For all we know right now, they have given up the ability to make Fallout: Online. Bethesda could have given them a lot of money in the settlement so that they would stop making it.

Again, please look carefully. The news script creates a permalink in the forum...just like on the vast majority of websites on the internet. Don't believe it? Then just go to the main page.

It's not a forum thread. It's a permalink to the main news post on the site.

Unfortunately, Bethesda didn't give the developer Obsidian enough time to use anything but the crappy Gamebryo engine and assets that Fallout 3 was built with. Obsidian has improved a lot of the art and animations, but there seem to be definite limitations to the more than 10 year old engine.

Obsidian unfortunately has to use Bethesda's crappy engine. Bethesda hasn't given Obsidian enough time to use a new, shiny engine. They've barely given them enough time to create a full-retail game, but I have a lot of confidence in Obsidian.

Unless he is part of the gaming press, he hasn't seen any gameplay yet.

Full retail. It's more or less a "true" Fallout 3 in that it is much more of a direct sequel to Fallout 2 than Bethesda's Fallout 3 was. This game is going to continue some of the storylines that have carried over since Fallout 1 (things like the New California Republic).

None of these are new screen shots at all. They've been online for quite some time now.

Great shot of the NCR soldier...only wish that the actual game looked like that instead of the ancient Gamebryo engine.

They should definitely get on the Descent series as well. Those were classics.

@zeeshan

He means that the people who are making Fallout: New Vegas (Obsidian Entertainment) are the people who made the original Fallout games at Interplay/Black Isle Studios back before the studio closed. People like Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, and JE Sawyer who have intimate experience with and knowledge of the entire Fallout series.

Definitely get yourself a copy of Fallout 1 and 2 ASAP Zeeshan. Easily two of the best role playing games ever made :)

I wonder if OXM actually researched what the NCR is...

It's really a shame that OXM treats Fallout 3 like it's some majestic gift from the heaves while ignoring Fallout 1 and 2. RPGs are in a sad state of affairs in general, morphing more and more into action adventure games. You really didn't have any "choice" in Fallout 3 at all...no more so than a game like Sanitarium. In fact, I'd go so far as to say Sanitarium was a better RPG than Fallout 3.

It's r...

I can see what you mean when you talk about the engine. The Fallout community was up in arms in the beginning of development of Fallout 3, calling is Elder Scrolls: Fallout, or Fallout with Guns, and variations on that. The engine is fundamentally flawed, and Bethesda really screwed up with Fallout 3. Obsidian has been making quite a few behind the scenes changes to the engine, but there is only so much they can do visually. They would have been better off using the Unreal engine, Source,...

It's not an expansion at all. This game is more of a direct sequel to Fallout 2 than Bethesda's Fallout 3 was.

Fallout: New Vegas is already shaping up to be 10x the roleplaying game that Fallout 3 was.

I completely agree. There's a journalistic phenomena associated with this that the Fallout community calls "The Rybicki Maneuver," after 1up's Joe Rybicki who did this "maneuver" with Fallout 3. The basic premise:

"In short the maneuver means that as long as your opinion on the product actually matters towards the game's sales, don't be too critical. The moment criticism doesn't matter anymore or, even better, criticism can be used to say "they won...

The .cx domain is sort of an inside joke at Duck and Cover. A long time ago, before it's rebirth, DAC was located at duckandcover.net. Then, a admin staged a coup and de-admin'ed everyone else. He then spammed everyone on the boards with the goatse.cx image. As a result, the website closed for a little while and the duckandcover.net domain was cybersquatted. Having no other real options, DAC decided to go for the .cx domain as an inside joke/homage to the terrible image that was spammed ...
